She hires private detective John Blacksad to investigate Yale’s disappearance. Sonia Dunn, Joe’s daughter, takes over the gym and must deal with its financial woes. Meanwhile, rising star Bobby Yale, due to take to the ring for the most important fight of his career, has mysteriously disappeared. An official and all-new story for BLACKSAD, set in the comic book series’ unique world, perfectly recreated for gamers. While the tracks work, the songs start to get used too frequently that an air of repetition sits in when combined with the length of the game. The soundtrack could’ve done with being more expanded as it’s too limited. In the game (likely a result of being on a lower budget), characters tend to have very stiff animation and automated looking lip syncing. In the comics, the poses / facial expressions could shift between subtle to larger than life, which gave it an identity (in addition to the physically painted coloring, shading, and lighting). The art style (while different from the comics) works, but has problems. Jazzy soundtrack: The game’s soundtrack is jazzy and atmospheric, perfectly complementing the mood of the game. The game even throws in a lot of “false answer” dialogue choices that get Blacksad killed, forcing a retry. A player’s choices don’t matter aside from flavor here and there. Without going into flaws that tend to inherently show in point and click style adventure games, the bugs take a bit out of the experience (even while not being frequent). The gameplay, stability, and presentation of the game is where it struggles. The story was solid, probably the best part of the game. An investigative narrative game with gameplay combining investigations, puzzles, quick time events (QTE) and multiple-choice dialog. The sound design is top-notch, with a jazzy soundtrack that complements the mood of the game.
The game world is richly detailed, and the characters are realistically rendered with unique personalities and traits.
